About Idaho Conscious Design

Colt and Chelsi were both born and raised in Idaho’s Treasure Valley. After Colt retired from the Marine Corps—where he served as an Environmental Engineering Management Officer—they settled in Middleton to build a small farmstead and raise their family.

What began as a simple dream quickly turned into an education in land development: floodplain engineering, undisclosed easements, boundary disputes, administrative splits—you name it. The process was anything but straightforward.

Through that experience, Colt realized their story wasn’t unique. Many Idahoans who want to build their dream property run into the same challenges: unclear processes, inconsistent permitting, and a maze of regulations that can easily derail even the best plans.

As the former Environmental & Community Health Director at Southwest District Health, Colt worked across county agencies to simplify and modernize development processes. Still, he continued to meet people whose projects were delayed—or completely stalled—by unnecessary complexity and lack of guidance.

That’s what inspired Idaho Conscious Design.

What began as a side venture has grown into a mission: helping clients take control of their building journey. Whether it’s a single-family home, a small farmstead, or a multi-phase vision with shops, barns, ADUs, and future land splits, ICD helps clients see the big picture from the start.

Colt’s philosophy is simple:
Start early. Understand the client’s long-term goals. Build a roadmap that serves them today—and 20 years from now.

Too often, homeowners rely on a patchwork of contractors and consultants, each focused only on their own piece of the project. ICD bridges those gaps, aligning every decision with the client’s overall vision. The result? Fewer costly surprises, smoother collaboration, and a final outcome that truly fits the dream.
